A guy here flies Siberians, or did. He had his last one killed by a wild bird at the NAFA meet. They tolerate all weather we have here. -15 in the winter to 100 in the summers. Other thing is that they tend to be huge. One of his last birds was flying at 46oz I think. Here are pics of two of his birds. He, Darryl Perkins is coming out with a new book soon. Understanding Gos Hawks. It is all done, but he is going through his finanacal options, from what I have seen in the book and with him in person this is a book well worth picking up. It wasnt that Gos, those are pics of Gyrlinka. It was Sponge Bob that got it at the NAFA meet. I think Gyrlinka died at the end of last season from West Nile or she was killed by a coon. All I know is Darryl has had a bad luck this season with birds. One to a wild ferruginous, another to west nile or asper, and another to a coon. He is left with a male Finnish Gos at the moment, named Grady.

Anyone on here ever tried a passage gos? I'd love to hear anyone's experiences with them.

My friend Greg from MN flies them all the time. He is training a fresh trapped tiercel at the moment that he ridge trapped a few weeks back. I'll see if i can get him on the list.

Seems like a lot of those MN guys fly them. I've read a lot of articles by Ben Ohlander (sp?) and he does great with them. Thanks!

Anyone have any or know of anyone who's had experience with chamber raised or dual imprint goshawks? Seems a lot of UK and European falconers fly them with great success. I'm trying to investigate options to an imprint gos since I really want to fly a gos again, but don't want the screaming or any aggression. Fear I can deal with. Anyone? Thanks.

Read the Imprint Accipiter and get ahold of a copy of the new book out by McDermott too. They explain alot about imprinting and raising Goshawks

I've got both books and have read them and referred to them a bunch. Over the past five years of imprints and passages, my personal preference is moving away from imprints though. There's nothing in either about chamber raised birds. It seems Perkins' book will be one of the first, but it's not available yet.

Any idea when it will become available? I wouldn't mind reading that one. I am more likely to get a coops than a gos, but these books provide a good bit of insight into their behaviors.

I have no idea. I've been checking his website periodically to see, but you still can't order it yet. I've put myself of the mailing list so hopefully I'll know as soon as it is. I'll post it here if no one else does since there was some discussion of it earlier in this thread. I'd love to know what his pros and cons are for a chamber raised bird vs. an imprint or passage. There's just not much written on chamber raised goshawks from what I can find.

I spoke w/ Perkins at the NAFA meet about his book. He is in the process of publishing it himself and it should be out some time in '06. He would not be any more specific than that. I too am on the list for that one.

I think money was probably the last thing on his mind when he lost his birds.
