Wes, so if you can't use chicken wire or hardware cloth, what do you use?

When I built mine a few years ago my sponsor recommended a 2"x4" welded heavy gauge fencing for the top, I've heard it called livestock fencing and Hog wire, then covered it with knitted shade cloth and used a sheet of siding for a shaded area in weathering, seen some weatherings covered with fencing than with some type of netting, I don't know the name of it, someone else may have more and better ideas. wes

I built a vestibule of lattice in the front of my mews. The doors open to the outside and it just isn't worth the risk. The vestibule is 4x8x7 (i think) and it cost me about thirty bucks. That's less than the price of the bells i have on my hawk.

Fantastic! I love these great ideas! they are a well needed addition to any mew in my opinion.

well wes it deppends on how you use your weathering area i have something similar to that on my mews for a weathering area and when the bird is weathering he is teatherd so my weathering yard is more to keep other things out not my rt in. so the chiken wire on the roof of the weathering yard is not a prob. But i do agree that it is not suitible for anything in the mew like windows the roof ect..

If you dont free loft you dont have to worry about it. So rt are you telling me that free lofting is not the best way to keep a Red-Tail? Maybe we should start a tethering vs freeloft thread Yarak
