I surf the some photography sites on a semi-regular basis always on the look out for good quality waterfowl reference pics (I carve my own decoys) and when I run across a great Raptor pic I typically save it... This one really caught my eye this morning...it is a Galapagos Hawk and just check out the "Meat Hooks" this bad boy is sporting! Lee

If you ever get the chance to watch' The Life of Birds" , they have a whole segment on the Buteo galapagoensis hawks and the way they hunt the galopagos iguanas. Pretty neat to watch. They are quite a bit smaller than one would think....more like a Swainsons hawk that a Red tail. There are only about 150 pairs left in the wild.

That's interesting to know...there wasn't anything in th epic to gather an idea about the size of the bird and I hadn't looked up the species in my Raptor's of the World book yet this morning...
Is that show a PBS documentary or what Weasel?

Life of birds is a DVD set of 3-4 disks all about different birds of the world. It is not focused on any one species or type. It is commentated by Sir David Attenborough....Worth the money to watch. Here is a link It's a great read on this site! www.pbs.org/lifeofbirds/sirdavid/index.html

The book is good, too. Those Galapagos Hawks remind me of skateboarders the way they "ride" the iguanas.
