You have to have the right quarry, area and attitude to fly a Golden. They are a serious bird to handle. In my honest opinion, I don't really see the point to flying one as I could take as much if not more head with an RT with nowhere near the troubles. Unless you hunting wolves and deer, what is the point of flying one?

i agree w weasel my sponsur is dead set on getting a golden soon she is building mews now but i dont see why you really want one. i have hunted with two goldens trained by very good falconers and they are good birds but just not for me.

Well, Up there in the flat nothing called the panhandle, ya'll have lots of open space and Jackrabbits galore so it seems a more likely situation......Still an awful lot of bird to train to get the same results as some other species.

They are a ton of bird to train that has the ability to kill you they could easily kill a small child..My friend who used to do summer eagle rehab work knows of another eagle rehabber who lost a kidney to a Golden. also you need tons of wide open remote space. Things to remember.

I like the speed and power these birds have that to me is what makes them so appealing plus I have large populations of geese, foxes and deer I beleive putting up game wouldnt be a problem we also have decent rabbit numbers.

My sponsor hunted w/ a hen golden for 14 years(copper). He said that if you get a golden get a tercel. And you need to be able to hunt out in the open and have NOTHING around. The god d**n thing killed to calves that were like 5 miles away from where he was hunting. He did say it was pretty neat when he hunted antelope w/ her. But he said he'd never do it again, and advised me against ever getting one. He did mention a few other eagles that might interest me.

EAGle falconry permits are issued to master class falconers who live in states where the use of eagles for falconry is legal. regin1 states which allow the use of golden eagles for falconry are idaho and washington.

Goldens just don't fit my Falconry style, there are so many raptors out there that I'd like to fly that just work better for me.
Nothing but nothing beats flying 5-6 HH's with your friends.
