i was lookin in my book of raptors a few days ago and the northern harrier caught my eye i was wondering if anyones every flown one or if they r even catchable it said the only migrate soth in the winter and dont stay for very long as its a long trek back north

I have heard that they don't have the right attitude for falconry, that they don't train up very well. But I could be misinformed. It's also my understanding that they are notorious carriers (but so are merlins), and that they have small feet and aren't good for much more than mousing. This is all just hearsay on my part. Just relaying what I've heard.

Harriers take a few goslings in my area. Tough to say they dont have the right attitude when they face the ol mum and dad to take a gossling!

Harriers are great at killing shorebirds, they have a very interesting M.O. too. They glide low to the ground and when they come upon a sandpiper, or other unsuspecting small shorebird, they drop on them and its curtains for the little fella.
