Falconry in the USA is a "brand new" sport compared to the countries you just named.
Falconry in the USA is strong and getting stronger in the circles i run with, not sure about the rest of the country.

Why would it be a dying sport? Some would say we have it better than anyone else. Wild harris' hawks, passage take, several different native longwings, broadwings, and shortwings to choose from, not to mention captive bred birds. Harris' hawks that are now wildly popular in the UK were pioneered here when others said they would not amount to anything. Squirrel hawking may not have been started here, but it has been perfected here. Imprint accipiters were certainly made a lot easier by an American falconer. The most recent "breakthroughs" in modern falconry have come from american falconers. So again I ask what would give you the idea that it is a dying sport?

You're better off contacting falconers by joining your local state falconry club, not through the state agency. Those that have something to be embarrased about (like not flying their bird or not caring for their bird properly) tend to stay away from other falconers. That's not a hardfast rule, just a common trend. There are some non-club members that fly regularly, and some club members that are sometimes refered to as "petkeepers". Most state clubs will show you how serious falconers are in this country about how much a part of their lifestyle it's become.

In Texas they will not give you a list of Falconers.

I belong to the THA and the AHA, they are both wonderful clubs, I love hawking in Texas! Louisiana has about 40 Falconers listed and I just went to a meeting in Baton Rouge were 36 Falconers showed up, almost everyone that is listed was there and will be flying birds this year. I ask about a state club twice to the group and I was ignored, it was funny, it was almost like I was the only one who "didn't know" Michael Beran
