Saw a jack this weekend on about 4 different occasions. Though the wingspan is not much bigger than a kestrel the impression is of a bird more powerfully built than a kestrel. I have seen merlins each summer in this area for years. I was alerted of the merlins presence by he calls of barn and tree swallows each time he entered the area. Saw him grab a fledgling tree swallow, no doubt he is feeding some nestlings. Beautiful bird, hopefully i can find the nest if I get up to that area again soon. Also saw some ospreys and a bald eagle being mobbed by one, the eagle would do a barrel roll each time the osprey came down at itand it was quite impressive to watch.
