Do you usually release at the end of the season? Good looking bird and sounded like a great hunter. Would be hard for me to let go.

Well, Due to being in the Military it's getting close to the time I'm going to pick orders. I kept him for 2 seasons but wasn't going to at first. He was just a really good bird. Until I get out of the Navy I'm sticking with releasable birds. It was hard but I belive that it was the best I could do for him. He is ten times the bird that I trapped him at. .

I let my kestrel go two days ago. It sucked. She was being courted by male kestrels and a male merlin??? She was great, sry but I dont have a port for my camera on this computer. She was really focused on frogs and we killed them like crazy! She did kill a couple birds but never got her onto the starlings. When i let her go she went straight to the male and then she started looking under the eaves of the closest house for a bit of a hole to nest in. I'm confident that i'll see her with young this spring...lets hope.

Either way, I have seen fantastic birds of either sex. I personally flew only females as I hunted Fox squirrels only, but a tiercel is MORE than capable of taking a wide variety of quarry. In my opinion, the females are more aggresive to man and in general, deal with, but I enjyed each and every one of them very much. It all comes down to a few factors such as what quarry do you wish to pursue, and what are you comfortable with. A feamle is NOT that bad no matter what anyone says, you just need to be a little more carefull with you "actions" as it may be. They have lots of strength and they are NOT scared to use it. RED TAILS RULE!!!

I've only ever flown females as well and while thy were holy terror on game they were all big girl thingys on the glove and I have never had any issues with any of them showing agression or being agressive at any point. If you handle them carefully, repsectfully and follow routines they become quite tame and well mannered in a short period of time. Routine and consistancy have proven to be huge assets for me when working with my birds.
