Alright guys, not sure how many of you know this, but I'm going to be moving this summer (around the end of July, start of August) but I'll still be in my same state. I need some ideas (not plans or blueprints, etc) to make a mews that goes up quick, will pass an inspection and doesn't cost a ton. I'm planning on flying a kestrel this fall and won't be needing the mew for anything other than legal reasons.
Got any ideas?

you might try a bolt together mews. a floor, a roof, 4 walls... bolted together... it's also transportable for when you move

I'm talking about throwing it up AFTER I move so I can trap this fall.

Look at modifying one of the kitchenmaid plastic buildings that snap together. ;D

Sky, My mews are made to tear apart and put back together quickly. Regarding cost, it's all in how much you want to put into the lumber. I made mine pretty solid, probably too much so. I'll see if I can find some pics at home. It's made in 5' panels that slide between 4x4 posts and and then get screwed in to the posts. The top is also made of panels and just slides up top and bolts together. It stays in place by its own weight, although I did sink a couple of extra anchor screws. The pictures should tell it all. -Joe

Sounds good.
I heard of a gazebo mew once, even posted pics and have them on my computer. How well do you think that would hold up in central Montana?
After this season I plan on building a much better mew but I need one just to fly a kestrel.

Sky, I'll send the photos to Weasel tomorrow and see if he can get them posted for me. They are pretty self explanatory. -Joe

I would like to say only one thing about this topic, having a mew that can be thrown together quickly just to pass inspection will need a lot of careful thought put into it. If your goal is to pass inspection, then think again about what it is you are doing and remember the safety of you bird should come first, I guess I am saying to think about safety before you do anything. That should be your top priority!

It just needs the bare minimums. I'm going to fly a kestrel this fall so my mew will not be used at all. All I need it for is legal reasons. Should I choose to fly a red later on, I would go through and customize the mew how I prefer it. Right now, it's just build the darn thing so I can fly.

I will build it right the first time lol. I just need something that goes up quick and has the bare minimums to pass. After that, I can take more time and make it much better but I won't have the time to after I move.
