hello, I have a young red tail, 6 months old and doing well. She is flying free and her training is coming on well. His/her weight is 880g and fairly stable in the past two weeks. Does this mean she is a male due to the low weight? Are there any other visual signs of sex? Thanks Ray

My PMRT is 1x intermewed and flying at 900g's right now. He hunted at 840g's last year but might hunt over 900g's this year, we'll see how the cold works him. His feet are big but next to a Female they look skinny and thin.

I like those anklets. They look comfey. They are for busting through heavy brush, I would not use them on a new bird or a bird that bates. I put them on Adahi this year because he is a darling and does not bate, on the fist or the perch. I'll put squirrel cuffs back on him after the NAFA meet. Michael Beran

Did you make the anklets yourself or did you buy them? Is it easy to stitch rolled leather anklets?

back to the original question what weight would an immature female red tail be and also an adult female. Presume they are both at their ideal flying weight. Thanks for all your help. ray

back to the original question what weight would an immature female red tail be and also an adult female. Your asking an imposable question. That question can't be answered with out a $20 DNA test. My first RT (DNA tested for fun) Mahja(female) was a small girl hunting around 1000g's. My current RT Adahi(male) is now flying at 900g's. Three Louisiana apprentices are currently flying assumed female redtails at or around 1200g's, all three were trapped at or around 1500g's

Did you make the anklets yourself or did you buy them? Is it easy to stitch rolled leather anklets? I didn't make them. We have a Falconer (Dusty Smith) that is in a wheelchair due to these long pins sticking through his leg holding his bones in place while they mend. I just explained to him an idea I had to make anklets that would bust through the brush a little better AND hold up all year. He made these the next day. After he saw how Adahi looked and acted with them on he made some for his female RT Torie but he made them a little wider. Michael Beran

Which company do you use for the DNA test? I am curious to know the sex of the bird I am spending all my time with!!
