Somehow I knew the animal lovers would win out in the end. Their is too much public support for Pale Male. Normally we find ourselves at oods with many of them most of the time. I think through education and public awareness some may actually see the benefits of having hawks living in your city. Yarak

Well today I saw a bald eagle sitting on a nest and a osprey carring sticks across a quarry. Also the redtails are doing displays all the time. Has any one seen any accipiter action?

The Wife and I went out yesterday to spot some nests and I wanted to find out if the local coops that harrased my bird quite a bit had a nest nearby. I went to the local park where it is heavily wooded and after a short search I found signs of accipiters. I found several spots of whitewash and I found a fresh casting of feathers that was still wet. A short while later, I found a nest right above a trail. It sat about 20 ft off the ground and I could see what looked like a tail sticking off the edge. I went to the other side and glassed the nest only to see momma coops glaring at me from the top of the nest. She is sitting on eggs!. We lwft the area so not to upset her and we drove to check out the several RT nests in the area. All seemed unused until we found one that had momma on the nest with eggs too! We watched as the male came in and brought her food as she stood at the edge of the nest and ate a rat. I watched to see if she was ffeding young, but she made no motions like they where hatched yet. Yeah, keep an eye out on those rt nests.
We have a coop that I see almost every morning at home. I have looked for a nest but I cannot locate it as of yet.

NESTING

Well today was a good day for checking the sponsers nest boxes and the Coops nesting sites. Three out of the 6 nest boxes had birds. One Kestrel and two with screech Owls in them. I peeked into the Owl boxes and found one Rufus and one Grey both on eggs. I was to afraid to bump the Kestrel to see if she was on eggs ( I belive she was). We also went out looking for Coops nest and did pretty good today. The sponser took me to a area that usally has lots of nest sites. Found a hen sitting on eggs in about an hour of walking around. Course, the only thing visable was the tail. So, good day today! Plan on going back and finding couple more nest sites. Sponser says it's not uncommon to find lots of active nest sites in this area. So, found my first Coopers nest "Yeah" . In about five weeks the sponser is going to band the screech owls and kestrels. Hopefully we can talk another friend into coming over to band the coopers (since he has a permit to band them). It will be good practice and I'll be able to apply it after this coming season.
