Hawklad how are you
It's your hawk kid, Don't you think you should name it your self ? It's your first bird isn't it, don't you think that's kinda special? , wouldn't it be best for you to come up with a name for your first hawk on your own.
It's not that hard, just keep it short and simple a name that rolls of the tung and the bird understands and responses to you rapidly when it's called. Just like naming a dog , remember keep it short and simple names like, RUMPELSTILTSKIN , DON QUIJOTE DE LA MANCHA , CUAUHTEMOC MOCTEZUMA will not work , Good luck and take care

Hawklad
Use association to find a name !!
1) male or female ? Naturally you wish to have one that fits the sex of your bird .
2) Hatch date and date you received him/her
3) species ? This will determine the birds color ! ie goshawk ; gray / blue w/red eyes : ( Sky , Spark ) harris hawk ; red , black rust w/white trim ( Flame , Flare , Fire )
4) attitude ? Almost all NEW birds bat at first so don't include that part in evaluating attitude . Look for aggression , curiosity , demanding behavior etc etc ....... 5) use this association and go to a book or the net and look up hero's , gods , goddess , stars , planets , zodiac , or any thing you have a high interest in .
6) Like Anka said , keep it short and direct , especially if you plain to use the name in training .

I don't usually name a bird until he/she show's their true colors. I wait for something to jump out at me that fits the birds individuality. Which sometimes means it goes a while with no name. Some people like to follow themes for their birds, like ancient gods and goddesses, or all starting with the same letter, or a gimmic of all bland names like: Bob, Joe, John, Sam...... My first bird was named after a late aunt whom I really liked as I was growing up, Rosie. My current birds name is Hilda, which is Old Norse for Warrior, and is the personal name of one of the Valkyries. I hope this helps give you some direction for deciding how to name your own birds. It really should be more personal for you. Minca

''
Hey Weasel I think Celtic names are pretty cool , I use Amerindian names and I don't care what anybody says to me in the field. As long as they understand there name, and respond when called where good.
