So the forecast last night said it would be cold (30) with a chance of very light snow flurry's so i brought the fhh in so she wouldn't get too cold and drop to much weight. I woke up this morning with 3 inches of snow and a -5 wind chill with temps around 12. If my fhh would have been in the mews bad things would have happened. so this is a reminder to all to watch the weather (even though in this case it was way wrong) and prepare you birds accordingly.
a few things to do to prepare you bird include: 1. Feed up!! would you rather maybe miss a day of hunting or have your birds toes freeze off or possible die? 2. put a perch heater in the mews. I have done this for many years both with my hunting birds and edu birds at the rehab center. (i will try to post some pics or explanations later i have a few designs)
Now i know most of you are good falconers that don't need this advice but there are those out there that don't think about these things sometimes. I hear story's every year with birds dieing or getting frostbite on toes and i don't want this to happen to any of you guys Happy Hawking! Be Safe!

Yeah I'm with ya, suposed to get down to 29 degrees tonight in Shreveport, LA so I fed Padme' extra even though she was at weight. When her met kicks in she'll burn every bit of the extra I fed her tonight I'm sure. Michael Beran

I brought Abby in, we got 4 inches of snow and down to 19 tonight. I got home from work when this was blowing in and I looked in her mew from the window and I could not see her. I started to freak out. Un locked the doors and she was on the ground behind the steps, so I guess the wind was hitting where her perches are. I need to look at fixing this and riker I would like to see some picks of the heater.

Brought Joe in for the past few days due to the low temps here. Got down to 23 here last night with about 1/4 - 1/2 inch of friggin ice.
