Has anyone ever thought to expand hawk hunting to some exotics? African Guinea Fowl, exotic pheasants, chukars, chacalaca (sp), grouse, ect. I know a guy who has a wing shooting preserve and he has invited me to hawk a few different birds to see if any fit my Red-tail. I know quail would be few and far between for my rt but I think pheasant and guinea would be right up his alley. Anyone hunted their hawks in this style? Would this be considered "baggie" game? These are free ranging birds so I would think they are very fit and they are surviving on their own. Basically I'm asking for previous knowledge if you have it and if you liked it. Thanks

Guinea fowl are a tough quarry to catch. First of all they travel in packs and will sound one heck of an alarm as soon as the hawk is spotted. Two, they are very dense feathered critters and are hard for the hawks to hold. Several guys here in the metro have tried to hawk them before with no success with Harris's....yet.....Operation "Guinea sack" will continue till one is caught though. Chukars are similar in build, only much faster. I tried quail with my harris and unless you can reflush one, they are too fast also. I have caught a pheasant with my male harris though....But, all this said, it can still be done with the right slip and the right conditions.
