Leaves are getting thick and winds are blowing harder. Who has decided to put birds up for the moult already?

I am not ready yet, couple more weeks. My sponsor stopped flying his last week. He said he always stops first week in March because of pregnant rabbits.

Pushing ahead. Maybe another 10 days no signs of hormonal changes. Weather is warming quickly however. I was hoping for a couple more cold fronts but that seems unlikely now. Having to keep her pretty low and the squirrels all know us now. I can hear several bail and take off for cover before we even get close. Caught a black snake in the shed last week took him out and released him back deeper in the woods he was about 3 ft. That means our rattlers are out too. Hate to lose her to one of those. Saw a Turkey today also while driving about a 1/4 mile from the house. I have seen a Barred owl on a nest while hawking and we have 2 pairs of nesting RSH behind the house also. We give them a wide berth. I don't expect to be hunting after the first week of April. Yarak

I put Abby up this last weekend. Just saw no since in keeping her at flying weight when I had no scheduled out of town trips and no game local. So I cropped her up and will be gradually bringing her weight up.

Sorry I haven't been here in a while Been so busy I haven't had a chance to keep up with the site , like I would like
Put my bunch up in March . Neo had already started molting in January but that was OK cause I was concentrating on the to females , they were teaming up well together the hole season . As I said "were !" A dispute between the two on the first week-end of March resulted in Lasair L I T E R L Y scalping Kalu before I could separate them !! So I put Kalu up to recover and for the season. I tried to hunt Lasair a couple more weeks, I don't think Lasair cared but the thick brush, snakes and heat was to much for me , so finely ending the season
Neo is already half molted but the latest cold front slowed them all down. The new heat wave is starting to take effect and the feathers are falling again . Kalu's scalp has completely healed, most all the feathers on her head are back and her molt is going well . Lasair is molting the slowest. She has not dropped any deck feathers but she has new primaries coming in.
The molt does not open any time frames for me ! This is when I start getting in the chicks ;D As a rehab , I have already got in 3 barn owl eyass , feeding at 7:00 pm 12:00 mid-night and 5:00 am . I am surprised though, I usually have a GHO eyass by know but the GHO's give me a brake this year. About the time I release the barn owls, around June, it will be time for the screech owl eyass and I get to get up at mid-night all over again ! If this year follows last year, I'll have Mississippi Kites as soon as the screech owls are gone and with any luck, a red-shoulders some where in between !
But there is plenty of time, August is a ways off yet ! then it'll be time to start a new season all over . I just can't wait !!!
