Been interested in falconry for about 15 years now but never actually got round to having a bird of my own - my circumstances are changing in that I have more time to pursue falconry "properly" and I may be extending my garden which will create an ideal spot for an aviary. I have just joined the forum and I expect people have asked this question on many occasions - which bird? i know they say the Harris hawk is an ideal beginners bird but i do like the Lanner -its probably the speed of the bird and such a beautiful bird as well. Am I a bit too ambitious?

it all depends on where you live. If you are in th U.S. , you are required to have a redtail or a kestral as an apprentice. Unless you are lucky enough to live in Alaska. In Europe, the choices are different. After your apprenticeship, your choice of bird should depend on the game you have around to pursue, and your experience. cheers and best of luck.
