I have been given a Harris of 7 months old and i have never experienced a bird so anti-hood. He will duck shake crouch or bate every time. No good stroking his chest with it and a roll on over the head. This Guy is to wise. The Size is a 5 and the one and only occasion we got it on when he was at the vets was only due to the fact that we had hold of him in both hands to have his mouth checked under anesthetic. It fitted perfect but as soon as he came round it was a shake shake , Footing, and in the end he got it off with his talon. Nightmare! Now if he even sees it he is off and unless i withdraw it will hang off the glove and wont even climb back onto the fist until i take it away behind my back or sometimes i have to drop it! I know its perseverance but this boy really does get in a hell of a state. Any Solutions as this guy Ain't having it!

I would say it's just not worth the stress on that particular bird to force the hood issue. Some birds just will not hood and forcing it may make them fearful of hands, or worse, you. I'd use a giant hood to avoid the whole problem and I bet you and the bird will be a whole lot happier. Just my opinion.

Have you fed him from it? I have heard of some people that had to feed for several days to get the hood even close to them.

Have you tried the spinning approach? Basically, have him on your fist and spin in slow circles as you hood him. It keeps him disoriented and focused elsewhere. -Joe
