Be Aware of eye injuries, even minor ones

Clou - Female R/T

Aug 11 Thurs - all is well, weight 1571 grams
Aug 12 Friday - left eye is closed, opened eye when approached, good response
Aug 13 Sat. - left eye is closed again, opens outer lid, but not inner lid, bad response, Not hungry? Clou? Not good, worried now. Cast her and found small feather on edge of outer eye lid. No big deal
Aug 14 Sun. - checked her early, not good eye still closed, when she opened eye it was cloudy looking, no appetite, had to place food against beak to feed, just a rat front leg quarter? Not Good, Big time worried NOW
Aug 15 Mon. - 10:00 am, took her to vet. : She said Clou had an eye injury, It was not a viral infection,
Drops and Cream three times a day. Eye still closed as of sundown, but she does open it.
Ate rat rear thigh and turned away, little appetite
Tuesday 4:00 am both lids closed, eye still cloudy, but not getting worse, just stable:
2:00 pm outer lid mostly open, inner lid still closed, but does open eye when approached.
7:30 pm- inner lids staying open more, eye still cloudy, but looking better. She does seem to be responding well to meds. cloudy eye color is better. Flight still off some, appetite is better; feed her- rat rear thigh, with leg and 100 grams of beef heart and Vitamins.
Aug 17 Wed - this morning appetite and attitude starting to return, things are looking up. Eye color is getting better.

Talking with my Daughter, she witnessed a squirrel on weathering area last week and Clou went after it feet first, but on impact squirrel went flying off top and over fence, got away, squirrel way have caused injury? I’m on the lookout for that squirrel now!

Glad to hear that she is doing better now. Did the vet check for things such as respitory infections and frounce as these can cause similar symtoms.

Weasel; it was not needed, vet said some type of impact injury and a scratch on the cornea.
went to Vet. again this morning, is doing a little better and she is using eye more. just keeping my fingers crossed and appling meds. three times a day

Thanks Weasel: It's been only five long days, just before dark, I looked in on Clou, left eye still a little cloudy. In mews she was landing close to right edge of prech, that worried me!
I had to find out how she was flying.
flow her off glove on a feeder rat in yard, instantly -nailed it in top of head -neck with left foot and center of chest with right foot. after a full crop she was happy and so am I.
still Have my fingers crossed, that her eye will heal completely and not effect her vision. only time will tell.
