I get aggravated often enough when I see a magnificent raptor injured, but when it is on human error directly- it really ticks me off.
Falconers are out trying to trap nice passage RTH's and Harris's and I've had one of each come in in the last few days.
Oil field workers saw a hawk in a tree and thought it needed rescued from coyotes and the likes because it was screaming at them for food. Turns it out it is a juvi Harris's hawk begging its parents for food. The men captured it, tied its legs up with wire, put it in a plastic bag and hung it upside down. reasoning , I don't have a clue.
Another man rescued the bird from them, took off the contraptions and brought it to me.
The bird has suffered a broken leg and a broken top mandible. The bird will be rehabbed, but will take several months to recover from its injuries. (idiots)
Last ight a couple of old gents stopped by in a minivan and asked me i f I take in animals. Of course, I said, what do you have. Their reply " oh we think its a hawk and its still alive in our grill" UGH sure enough there is a huge female RTH crammed into a slit of their grill 3 x smaller than its own body. It must of literally been sucked into the grill, not only was it alive but had been riding there for about 120 miles or so. They hit it, but left it there instead of pulling over and helping it. DUH!
It took me 15 minutes to extract this bird from its h#$l. Meanwhile the 2 men just sat and watched me struggle. After all that ,the only thing I could do for the poor bird was give it a humane death for its entire right side was crushed. argh.
Thanks for letting me vent!
