What are some of the meds you guys use in worming raptors, when do you worm them , how often do you check their mutes, and when you capture a new bird do you test their mutes right away.

I take all of my birds to the vet within the first few days of trapping it. It gets a full check up with a fecal flotation and a fecal smear test done there and then. I have not seen many birds that did not have any problems when caught. Mine have consistently had Gapeworms, coccidea and liver flukes. Pancur, Albon and Amoxicillan are a few of the drugs administered to my birds over the last two years. I do not know doses for these meds.

After trapping your bird you should have a vet exam done. They will usually do a fecal, if not ask then to. Also make sure your vet knows how to treat raptors. After the first fecal every 6 - 12 months should do. I did however almost loose my bird to intestinal parasites this in the fall only 2 months after she had a negative fecal. She was winded after a bait and could not fly at all. I did xrays, bloodwork, checked for blood parasites, but did not do a fecal immediatly. The bloodwork came back with a low red cell count and a high eosiniphil count wich was indicative of parasitic infection. I then did a fecal and she was loaded ( I can't remember what she had), but after treating for intestinal parasites she bounced back and has been doing great.
