Here is a post copied from another falconer on an e-mail list I am on. "Just last night I heard from a reliable southern falconer that Tom & Jen barely escaped with their lives. They tried to weather the storm with the birds in the house but the flooding water almost got them. The birds are gone, most were released. They will have to completely rebuild their lives and I am sure that whatever they choose to do the falconry community will stand by them and help in any way possible. They had a 3 day nigtmare getting to Matt Mullenix's house and I think they might still be there if anyone wants to contact them."

THA is trying to find out how we can help and get members to send care packages. We are waiting for a list of immediate needs for them. I saw a post from NAFA basicly stating the same thing. I am glad they made it to safety.

I agree Wildchild, I have been putting serious thought into headed down there to help out with whatever I can to who ever I can. In Downtown Dallas there are several thousand refugees here already and they are calling for up to 25,000 total here alone. I plan on at least buying a bunch of bottled water and bringing it to the Reunion arena. Least I can do. I may be tight for money, but not like they are now.

Weasel I have been told by the Sheriff, working with La. Officials there are in bad need of blankets. I sent some stuff down with the Sheriff to help the police families, still working to help in rescue and restoreing order.

Were the Coulsens the ONLY falconers affected by this hurricane? or are they the only one's anyone seems to care about? I find it hard to believe that there are not other falconers that need our help too.

From What I have heard, There are about 8 falconers in the area. This is just an estimate for the New Orleans area only. I don't know anything about the folks in Mississippi etc.

From what I remember, there is closer to 15 falconers in the affected area (LA). Talked to two raptor-Rehabers today and they are full up as well, as a few others I know of in this area, with all the displaced and injured birds on the gulf coast as well as further up Katrina's path. I have heard nothing from Miss. or Alabam. but I'm sure they are full as well, This was one mean storm. Wes

There are several falconers that were affected by the disaster. NAFA has spearheaded a help effort on behalf of all falconers in need. The NAFA website has a link to offer your help and services to those people. www.n-a-f-a.org
