Ok here is my question. I am going to get a new english pointer german shorthair mix tom, i have trained many dogs and several birds but never trained to hunt my bird with a dog. (does this make since?) but any way i am asking advice on how you guys train you dogs to your birds and bird to dog... I have look for some books on it and didnt get very far. if you know some good ones let me know. so far i have herd a few methods first bird on one hand rolled up mag in the other but i dont like that, so any good advice?? Second and this is the more important of the two. The bird i have now is a lst year rt about to go through his first molt. can i still hunt a dog with him or is that something that has to happen from the start in training?? i have herd mixed opinions about this and am at a los.. so what do all of you smart falconers think??

Introduce them on the birds terms. Make certain the hawk is fat. Then keep them in visual contact with each other as much as possible. Once the Hawk learns the dog flushes its all downhill from there. You really need to have a reliable field dog. Obedient. If you have too many bad encounters in the field between hawk and dog and can ruin it. What a hyper crazy dog! Yarak

There is a book called Rabbit Hawker's Dogs that has some interesting things in it.
