If you live near a glass factory that manufactors windows for commerical buildings, check with the truck drivers that haul for that company. They put the large glass windows on steel frames and in the truck they use 3x4 rubber pads which are about 1/4 inch thick this keeps the frames from sliding around, I use them and they are virtually in-destructable. The other pads that I have used come from the Sams Club store, you can also get them at Wal Mart. They are inter linking 3x3 ft. rubber colored pads made for childrens play rooms. These will wear over a period of about four years when free lofting RT's They are very cheap in price. If you do run across those truck pads be sure to check them for small pieces of glass imbedded in the rubber before you use them
