For those of you who are shopping for a scale, I have been shopping and just bought a nice Ohaus "Dial a Gram" tripple beam scale on eBay with all the tare weights and the added feature of the dial for a 10th of a gram measurement for just 45.00 (that was my final price) There are some good deals on used sales on ebay for those who are looking. This same scale can be bought for $245 on a popular falconry site. Of course it comes with a perch. www.northwoodsfalconry.com/index.cgi?rm=showitem&itemid=SC-005&cat=%2FScales

For those new to Falconry, Be aware that a hawk can throw a scale across the room. I have had two birds launch off a triple beam that was anchored to a 2"x10"x 3' piece of wood. Trip beam didn't make it, had to have it repaired. $$$$$$$ My suggestion is to anchor your scales firmly !!!!!
just something to think about. Do you need a scale range of a 10th of a gram?
Happy Hawking Wes

Hey Wes, Thanks for the advice. I wil be flying kestrels so..maybe not a tenth of a gram but, the more accurate and reliable the better! You can really get some great deals off of ebay as well. I am talking a Dial-o Gram for less than 40 dollars. How can you turn down accuracy and reliability for a price like that? Also my sponsor, a long time hawker, as well as her husband an even longer time hawker, recomend a triple beam scale. Good Hawking all. Carl

Yes BlueT , accuracy and reliability for a price like that for a K-bird maybe needed, I've not flown one. But that what sponsors are for, sounds like you've got a good one. Good luck and Hawking Wes

Hey Wes, Yes, everyone I have ever talked to that knows of my sponosr thinks she is a great falconer and I have a lot of respect for her. Although I wont be flying until next year i am very excited to be going to all the meets and also tagging along with her and her husband out on the salt marshes this winter. It means alot that she is sponsoring me...Hallmark moment...sorry, haha.
