Besides one being electric and the other you adjust manually is there a difference between the two?

Ones gray and one is black? The electronic one is much faster to get a weight on a bird as nothing has to be done other than to hit the on button, but the triple beam doesn't use and power and is fairly strong as compared to the electronic scales. The electronic one I use is from a company called Oldwillknot.com and this scale is one of the cheapest and best I have seen. It's only $50 with an A/C adapter included.

You will need a ditigal scale so you can measure in grams as well I always measure that way it is not necessary but lets me know quickly if somthing is a myth with my bird. They are also faster with a reading like Weasel said, and that is important because birds don't like to sit there too long. Mine will outside in the yard, but not one second in the mew. Got mine for 35.00 at Office Supply electric plug in or nine volt battery which last through the winter monthes very well. You will also have to purchase some other items like velkro, pvc pipe, and covering on the T perch, I use leather, and another device to use as a base to connect all this together. Make sure the scales before you purchase them will zero out after placing all that stuff on the top of them.

The KD600 is a perfect model for a redtail. The top can come off to add a T perch onto it.
