EVERY falconer will admit, this book is the falconry bible, and worth EVERY penny spent on it.

A Falconry Manual - Frank Beebe

A great starter book. This book was the first i read, and is still the foundation for my knowlege in falconry.

The California Hawking Clubs Apprentice Study Guide - CHC Various

This is a great example of what the test will look like. EVERY apprentice should read it.

These are just some of the books that really helped me start in falconry. They will also give you a good idea of what to expect from falconry, which is something many apprentices seem to be curious about, and get wrong most often.

Great book that will get you going with the basics.

The Falconer's Apprentice
by William Oakes
Another good one that will help with the basics of a red tail.
Both of these books help an apprentice understand how some of the basic handleing and training takes place. This is not to overide what you sponsor will teach you, only a supplement as it can be pretty nerve racking to understand some of these aspects before you get your first bird.

Ya, these books will give you many different points of view on the sport. So you will have a wide variety of knowlege, and then when you gain a sponsor, you can follow the path they lead you down, while still aware of the other ways.

MAKE NO MISTAKE!!!

The A Number 1, no question about it, biggest responsibility of a pre-apprentice is to STUDY. AND THAT MEANS READING ACTUAL BOOKS. You know, which covers, and pages.

The internet is a poor substitute to the books listed above. BUY THEM, READ THEM, KNOW THEM!!
