Hi, does anyone have any glove patterns they could email me? I'm pretty good at leatherworking so I'll try my hand at making a glove and save myself some money. Thanks ;D

Hi Kestrelboy,
Have you read Phillip Glasiers book "Falconry and Hawking" there's a good glove pattern in there.
Regards,
SPAR

Did anyone ever come up with a pattern for a glove other than the one in that book? I'd like to take a try at sewing my own too.

Thjere seem to be a few of us that would like to try and make our own gloves. I've been looking for a pattern myself for a while now and think it comes down to just trying a few ideas and seeing what works. What I would like to ask is what would be the best leather for making such a glove. the leather for hoods and jesses is fairly easy but info on gloves is another problem. Any ideas.

If I were you I would call someone who makes gloves and ask their opinion. Now understand that these people do this for a living and will only be slightly helpfull. There is a gentleman that someone already recommend to make custom gaunts in another topic. If I were you I would call him up and see if he will chat with you.

From some of the books I've read, I've heard kangaroo leather is one of the best to use. It tends to be tougher than regular leather and is lighter. I don't know much about anything though. Just relaying what I've read. Take it easy, Flyboy1326

what if you dismantled an old gauntlet or maybe even a welding glove. You could probably trace the pieces onto pattern paper or light cardboard and develop your own patterns.

I also do a lot of leatherwork, and decided to make my own gauntlet. I do fur trade re-enactments, and had some good quality "scraps" laying around.
To make the pattern, I took apart an old leather glove that fit me well, and then modified it to make the cuff longer. I have lots of experience making patterns for leather clothing, and modifying them to fit, so that really only took about 10 minutes.
I wanted to make the gauntlet "double-layered" on the index finger, thumb, and wrist area, so that did take a bit longer to figure out. I ended up making an approximate pattern, cutting the leather over-sized, and then final cut and fit as I sewed the glove together.
I would say that total time to a finished gauntlet was about 3 hours for my first try, less for my second.
My second gauntlet I made longer to cover more of my fore-arm. I did this because I had a "sticky" situation involving a short sleeve shirt, a hungry RT, and some talons.
Materials- I used garment tanned elk hide, double thickness, for my first glove, and the same for my second. However, on my second I used some moose hide for the top layer. I sewed the glove using a waxed nylon commonly referred to as "artificial sinew". I think these materials make great gauntlets, and would not hesitate to recommend them.
For leather, I would recommend elk, moose, or even buffalo, for a soft, comfortable, durable gauntlet. You can usually find them through a Tandy's Leather, or similar outlet.
I'm not all that computer literate, so hopefully I can attach a photo of them here. My first glove is the one that looks "used", with my newer back-up gauntlet. Please don't laugh too hard at my color choice, I used scraps...
Ok, I can't figure out the picture thing, I'll keep trying...
Phil
