Right now I have three transmitters. An RT+ 2004 model bewit mount 216Mhz, an old model Marshal Micro Tail mount 218Mhz, and an LL LF-2 1/3n hack transmitter Bewit mount 216Mhz. I am currently borrowing a new receiver from a friend that won it at the THA raffle. It is the new R-400....Good bang for the buck. www.thepetlocator.com/csishop/default.html

Weasel, how is that R-400 working for? Do you think it is better than the Min-10s? I was looking into getting one but wanted to get some opinions on them before I bought one. I talk to the companey that makes them and they said they are better than the MIn-10s and about equal with everything else out there.

I don't have that much experience with them yet, but I have used each type several times and I would say that this R-400 is a bit easier to use and equal as best I can tell to the MN-10. It's only downfall is the antenna looks pretty flimsy. I like the MN-10 folding antenna better in that regard.

Those are expensive right? not just those model but the system in general. Most sets can be bought between the range of $500-1500 dollars. This is for the receiver only. The transmitters go from $100 to 300 dollars

I have a 2004 RT+ tail mount, and i like it a lot. I have heard great reviews about it, and there are plenty of people who swear by it.

uhhh EVERYONE i know uses telemetry. The only people who don't that i know of are flying harris' or kestrels.
Everyone who told me to buy the RT+ owns at least 3 of them and uses them every day.
Why would i post on here if i hadn't spoken to people who used them, or used it myself?

How many people actually use it though? I did not use it until 2 weeks ago when I LUCKILY got Goose my RTH back after 8 days out on her own. If I had it on then I would have gotten her back the same day. I use a marshall transmitter, not sure what kind, because my sponsor gave it to me. My thoughts are you should at least have a transmitter. More than likely someone near you, esp someone who flys longwings will have a reciever that you could probably borrow or they will probably help you look for your bird. The other thing I've heard of late is that the old Marshall transmitters have fallen out of favor with longwingers, due to wandering signals. That is how I got my transmitter. My sponsor got L&L LF-3's and gave me one of his old marshall transmitters. He said marshalls work fine for hawks because they generally won't fly off several miles like falcons will and the wandering signal is not much of a problem. For example I found my bird only a mile from where I lost her. It is also my understanding that Marshall has adressed this problem and fixed it in thier newest models.

A good majority of folks use telemetry systems if they are hunting in an area that you can loose sight of the bird easily or if your a longwinger, you would use it if you value your bird. Not saying that hawks have less value by any means, but less of the falconers I know use it on hawks. My preference to transitters is the L&L lf-2 and 3 series. They are the best bang for the buck. I had one and it was beat to crap from squirrel hawking. I replaced the antenna several times and I also had to bend it back into shape a few times from the impacts....It still worked like a charm! I know too many folks that have had Marshall transmitters go out on them. In fact, it happened to a guy last weekend at the sky trials. Hit RT+ took a crap on him while the bird was in the air. New batteries, had a signal when tested before the flight........when the bird chased the pigeon out of sight......no signal

Well i dunno about any other brands of recievers... the use of telemetry though is for more than just when your bird flys away.
Twice my bird has caught something on the ground that i didn't see. Both cases it took me a while to find her, and only through my AMAZING FALCONRY SKILLS ... hehe, was i able to locate her again. if i hadn't been able to, having telemtry on would be a huge help, in fact thats the reason i got it is to locate her when she is on a kill that i missed seeing.
