Let's see what your lures look like. I use one that is ajust two peices of leather in an oval shape riveted together. I will post a picture when I get my camera back later this week. Cheers, Weasel

So...after all the kestrels I've flown, I'll be flying my first RT real soon. Just trapped him 1/15 and while I'm working on the basics of eating on the fist then jumping to the fist, the last thing I have yet to do is make my lure. I'm semi-expecting him to fly around 680-700g., he trapped at 830 with hood and sock. (ya, he's cute... ;D ) and I really have no idea how heavy my lure should be. I'm fishing for lure weight ranges here, any suggestions? I guess a lure for a HH would probably be more appropriate?

My lure is just two bat looking pieces of leather I sewed together and it weighs 200g's and you can tie meat to either side(I find that works best) I always have 5' of leash permanently tied to is and I never let go of the end of it when in use.

Thanks Michael. I've made the leather, it's egg shaped and about the size of my hand, and punched holes for sewing. Now I just need to fill it with something. Maybe some steel bebe's wrapped in a rag for padding?

Maybe some steel bebe's wrapped in a rag for padding? I just filled mine with scrap leather, had plenty of that laying around! BB's will make it too heavy if you have made it big enough for a HH or RT and think too your going to be lugging it around in the woods hunting so you want it as lite as you can make it.

I'm just talking like 6oz worth (your 200g). The lures Northwoods and Mikes sell are supposed to be 8 oz.
