Well after talking to some other squirrel hawkers here in the south east many don't like the chaps. Most common reason was weight and dosen't protect everything. Alot of them are into taping toes with vet wrap. Which I think is very time consuming and requires at least two people to do the job right. What do y'all think.

I don't use anything, because I fly squirrels only occasionally (maybe once a week) and I feel the chaps offer little to no protection. I'm SURE others will disagree about my view...but thats the fun of a forum. ;D

frootdog There are a lot of people that share your view here in GA and FL. I fly with chaps all of the time due Grey squirrels being the major quarry. Yes I'm aware that they don't cover everthing and dont prevent all bites but they prevent a lot of them. There are Pros and Cons to the use of them. Some of the ones I have heard lately are primarily Cons.
Cons:
1. weight 2. offer little to any protection. 3. affects footing in dense cover 4.ride up when they are sitting flat footed
Pros: 1. offer more protection than nothing 2. a lot less time consuming that wraping the foot with vet wrap. 3.dosen't affect the birds ability to hold quarry like vet wrap.
Well thats all I can think of right now (Long Day). looking for more input from y'all. Right now I'm just hearing a lot of clowning about chaps from my area. I think I will fly with chaps no matter the out come of the poll. More for my own prefrence than anything else.

If I flew primarily squirrels I would probably use them.

I am going to fly mostly rabbits and a few squirrles so i probably wont use chaps. I have a set but "probably" wont use them. Right now my thinking is that as little as possible on the legs is a good thing. I am going to try the one jess thing and see how that works.

I have heard of several folks that actually came up with a chain mail foot guard of sorts.
