I'm getting sad and depressed about not moving forward. I'm just completely STAGNANT its really bothering me. It's making me loose touch with being a falconer at all.... I can't work in my backyard (it's done), there is nothing to study for now that i've passed my test, i've read all the books available to me, I don't have the money right now for equipment or my mews... David Ritchie hasn't called me back. I can't even post on the forum... the strands are tenous and snapping, and I don't know what to do!

I haven't been here in a while so Hello everyone.
On to subject: In a way if this is making you lose touch maybe you aren't as committed as you thought. I haven't even been out hawking in a year and I am still rearing to go. What is wrong with your engine? hehe. Also Dustin has a valid point jobs keep people busy and generally generate some cash flow. If you are too young to start a job there are ways you can stay busy, like re-reading the books. Joining the CHC and getting in touch with falconers but offering to be a beater not saying anything at all about sponsoring you. You may want to take this year off and meet everyone you can in the area and just slowly get everything you need. Most people in a rush will take shortcuts or cut corners and that should not be your goal. your goal should be somewhere within the liens of doing the best you can for the bird and being as patient as you must be. If you can not be patient now what will happen when the bird doesn't hop? Or what will happen when one of the jesses you bought broke but you rushed and you only had that one on hand? IMHO I think you should take the time and get everything you need and double check your bread crumbs as you advance. You might be delayed now but it is merely temporary and it is for a good cause. You wouldn't want end up with a really bad falconer as your sponsor, thats the bad teaching the soon to be worse. Not good. Take a second and count your blessings, then go back to re-reading your books, your hunt for the potential sponsor, and make sure you cover all your bases more than adequately.

Excellent first post jelly morgan there are a lot of people right now due to spring, read the article in American Falconry. You will probably not get you a sponsor till the season starts back up and you get out there and beat some brush. I used to drive 2 1/2 hours to go beat brush with a few guys on this forum and not once did I ask them to sponsor me. They wanted to see my commitment. Than one day one of the guys asked me if I had a sponsor yet, and I said I did not. He told me if I did not have one by the time I was ready to test he would sponsor me. Well it turns out I drove home that 2 1/2 hours all excited and got home to a phone call from a master falconer who was also a vet saying he heard of my story by word of mouth and he would sponsor me. The point of all this is it takes time and you have not been at this very long, be patient. If it meant to be it will happen.

well no you misunderstand me... I am not loosing touch with it that way... I still am rearing to go.. but I feel like i'm in a dream... running down a hallway and not going forward. I have a job in the works, and i should be called soon about it.... I'm already a member of the chc. But do you know what SUCKS? I got the packet back, and they said the username and password... I tried them and they don't work! I requested passwords from the CHC and they NEVER returned an e-mail. So I can't even access the private website to look at the rosters to contact anyone!

Not again morgan...
SUCK IT UP! You are driving me CRAZY! If you can't handle a little wait, you will NOT make a good falconer. This sport isn't about rushing, it's about doing things right. Maybe you aren't meant to have a bird this fall. Maybe you should wait another year, it's not going to kill you. I waited 2 years to get my first bird and I don't think I ever made as many whining posts on forums as you. If you are serious about this sport and seriously want to get into it, you'll quit b!tching and moaning and do something about it. Sitting around waiting for a telephone call is not doing something. Call again, call other falconers, email them, ask to go out with them, ask if they know of breeders that could use some help. There is PLENTY to do right now, all you have to do is look.

When you get your hawk what are you going to do though molt??? Once they start you really shouldn't even hunt again till September, that can be a 6 month wait, what are you going to do then?

Excellent first post jelly . Wow, I have been a lurker here for a while now. hehe Morgan, what happens when your bird flies off and it is after trapping season? No one will take pity on you because part of the deal of being a falconer isn't just to hunt but to insure your birds retrieval and safety. Also why does it seem that everyone misunderstands your post? If you have something to say, say it. Don't sugar coat it or hide it behind something you do not mean. It is tiring the way you create an easy way out of every situation you get yourself into. When you do that with your bird she will find an easy way away from you and into her natural ways. And then what will you do? Sit there complaining to the bushes? Trust me they don't care. No, hopefully you won't. Hopefully you will go back and analyze why you lost her and how to be better next time. Also you might want to call the place you might possibly have a job at so you can make sure they got your APP. At the place I work at, I manage the apps, and unless they call they get tossed and that is how it works at other work sites too. Plus e-mail the CHC again. They have a lot on their plates being one of the best if not the best falconry associations in the US, so it might have been shuffled away. Like Sky says there are millions of things you can be doing. I mean if nothing else you could get on your bike and go looking for birds in your area and working on identifying them and possibly finding nest since this is the right season for it.

Aaron (who doesn't want to see another 'poor me' post from morganf) NOTE my last post.... I CAN'T ACCESS THE ROSTERS, so I have NO idea who is a falconer in my area. how do i contact them and set up stuff like that if I DON'T know who they are, and I don't have their phone numbers. You need to read entire messages before you speak. and If i'm annoying you, NO ONE asked you to read my thread, NO ONE asked you to post on my threads. And I know i'm not the only one sad about not moving forward... i seem to recall a VERY similar post by grappler about depression about the moult. Jelly - i've e-mailed them SEVERAL times, and what are you talking about, I've never had a bird or lost one. And about the whole work situation, I'm waiting for the BACKGROUND check to come back. And once again to all... STOP ACTING SO HIGH AND MIGHTY... You've all been in my position before being excited and wanting to become a falconer and being stuck somewhere. Stop making me out to be a villian.

Stop making me out to be a villian. 1.) You posted on a public forum, no one has to be asked to be able to read or reply to your thread. Welcome to the world wide web. 2.) She never said you do, she's impling that if the does happen what will you do. You need to be able to comprehend stuff before you type because it makes you seem really rash. 3.) That lil high and mighty part, why don't you try applying that to yourself, because typing in all caps is very rude. Also speak for your self. I've got my sponcer and I'm stuck right now trying to raise $900 for my mews and my other equipment, and I'm not moping around like a lil 5 year old. You're 18 for crying out loud, act like it! On a side note now no one is making you out to be a villian, we're just pointing out flaws in what you've said. Also find some thing to do right now I'm plotting and working my butt off to get all the stuff to make money. I starved myself the last two months of school saving my lunch money for an incubator so I can raise quail. Now I gotta build some cages. I'll prolly end up taking care of some horses for some side cash also. Serously dude moaning because you're depressed because you can't do any thing more, is stupid because there is always some thing to do!

lol, I never said you did lose a bird or that you will they are called examples. You sit there and lecture Sky on reading the entire post and I really don't think you read my completely, or maybe you did and you didn't care enough to comprehend it all. You asked for suggestions we gave them. If you do not like them put them aside and be happy that someone read your post because more times than not valuable post are missed. We are not making you out to be the villain except in that little case of, "you misunderstand me." Thats another subject though. We are telling you to cool your jets a bit and relax because this is something that can not be rushed. I am in your place at the moment and have been for a little more than 2.5 years, or since I got to met a Yarak and Weasel. Why? Too many reasons to even name. This is what I find funny. You are older than me(didn't know that till a couple of minutes ago) and you have more opportunity to get going because you are more self -dependent but you act/post things that do not show for your age or self-sufficiencies. We suggested that you go out on a hunt, wait a season, make sure everything is set up the way it should be and not to get into a rush. You seem to have disregarded all of that. There were suggestions in Sky's post that made a lot of wonderful sense. Like going through raptorsnest and looking up breeders that could be possibly close to you and helping them out. Or like I said earlier tracking down nest and identifying them. I mean that nest tracking thing can only help you this coming trapping season. I think you have this community pegged wrong. We are not bad people and we offered suggestions as you wanted. I am sorry you are not so clear in your post had you said you had e-mailed the CHC several times I wouldn't have included that or about the applications if you had said they are running a background check. I was trying to be helpful with those not mean or grumpy as you took it. Please I am not an attacker or a flame artist, I was simply suggesting things. If you do not want suggestions.
Sorry I am just wondering..do you have any large animals? Like a dog or horse?

It's just hard... sky's message didn't come in the most... helpful... of tones. And after that, all the stuff having the same information, it colored my impression of everyones suggestion... making everyone seem mean.
