When does hawking season start and end? Is it based on climate or scheduled dates like deer season.

I depends on your state and your quarry. You have to check your state regs. In Texas there is no season for vermin you can hunt them year round. Squirrels and rabbits are considered vermin and can theoretically be hunted year round. Long wingers have to adhear to the precribed seasons and bag limits. Usually dirthawkers start out around sept and put thier birds up for the molt or realease them anywhre from now till May. I an going to try to fly until the end of may if the weather and everything hold out long enough, but the end of March or April is probably more reallistic.

Actually squirrels do have a season as they are a game animal. It happens to be year round in most counties, but in the eastern portion of the state they do have a closed season too...Falconers are exempt from this from what I hear.

Well, It's Irish fest weekend so I will be doing a large amount of drinking this weekend, but we will also be turning my bird lose and hunting some more with Mel's bird. I figure we have at least a few more weeks left in the season for her bird. She wants to hit 21 for the season. ;D
