I thought we could all share how we studied for the test it could help some of the newbies to the sport. My advise is to learn all the vocabulary that is in falconry. ACCIPITER,CASTING,BUTEO,MANNING,ROUSE,MEWS,AND HACKING are all strange words to a person unknown to falconry if you understand them you will understand the sport better and what people are talking about. Plus you will ask less questions and worry less people I say learn the vocab first then learn why.

Read, ask questions, go hunting with your state club members, Read, ask questions, go hunting with your state club members,Read, ask questions, go hunting with your state club members,Read, ask questions, go hunting with your state club members and so on: People actually did research to prove this: One's ability to retain learning is directly proportionate to the number of times s/he is exposed to the material... duh

Every state exam is probably slightly different. In my case, I studied the New York state study guide and kept taking the falconry exam simulator on the Online Falconry website (see the link below) until I was consistently scoring 100 percent. www.onlinefalconry.com/USFederalFalconryExam.htmBoth of those study tools proved to be invaluable as our state test (Connecticut) drew a lot of questions from those sources. Our test is 150 questions (true/false and multiple choice) and included: sections on Connecticut and federal falconry regs; identification and treatment of common diseases; raptor identification and natural history; falconry terminology; and equipment. Having a falconry glossary on this forum would be a big help for anyone studying for their exam. - Jon D.

Quick story regarding the test:
Yesterday I headed over to some woods after work to meet my sponsor. Another local falconer was with him as well as a game warden. I didn't think much of it and started putting on my chaps. My sponsor yells, "Justin, get over here! This man wants to talk to you". So I walked over to the warden's truck. He looked kind of pissed and asked me my name. Told him my name and he said, "Boy, it is impossible to get ahold of you! I've had you're test in the office for a few days, and was about to send it back to Austin". I thought he was screwing with me at first, but he was serious. The funny thing is, that I had planned on driving to Austin to take the test, and I had just sent in all my paperwork a few weeks ago. I'm glad I ran into the guy.
So yeah, I take my test next Tuesday. Much sooner than I had planned.

Just finished taking the test. I feel like I did ok. There were a few questions that threw me off. Like- Your RT sprains a wing. You should- a. keep it quiet(?) until it heals. b. fly it hard until it heals. c. keep it socked until it heals. d. kill it.
There were a few more that I had trouble with, but I felt confident through most of it. Time will tell. Fingers crossed.

I remember that feeling, Dodes. When i left the testing site i was certain i had flunked the test. But i didn't . I'm sure you did just as well ;D. Some of the questions were ludicrous. I still don't know the answer to the "pipe question". Does any one else?

Dunno what the pipe question is bob. I was lucky. They graded my test as soon as i was done taking it. I had all of about 3 minutes to feel that feeling then i found out how i did. Im quite sure you did fine dodes. Im also glad to see that your sponsor treats you like an idiot child the same way mine does on occasion

It went something like... T/F "Smoking a pipe while manning a bird helps heep it calm." I guess that depends on what you're smoking.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA that sounds familiar for some reason. Sure lets just blow smoke at the bird. Forget that each breathe the bird takes circulates through its entire body and takes like a min and a half to be exhaled again There is a reason miners used to take caneries into mines with them. When that canary took a dirt nap, it was time to start running.
